Coffee Cake Recipe

Some might be surprised when they see that there is no coffee on the list of ingredients, as the name of the recipe is – coffee cake. This is a traditional American recipe for a cake you serve for breakfast with your first lovely cup of coffee. It is a perfect combination of tender and crunchy texture your palate will love, especially first thing in the morning. It is a low-cost recipe and fun to make; you can prepare it with your kids as it is super easy, so why not try it?

Let’s see how to prepare this delicious cake in a few simple steps.

  • 300 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 sachet baking powder
  • 120 g butter
  • 170 g sugar
  • 150 ml Greek yoghurt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt


  • 200 g all purpose flour
  • 100 g cane sugar
  • 120 g melted butter
  • Cinnamon, to taste


  1. Start by preparing the crumble. Place all the dry ingredients into a mixing bowl.
  2. Pour in the melted butter and mix the ingredients with a fork or your hands until you obtain a grainy mixture.
  3. Cover and place it in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
  4. Prepare the cake by placing softened butter into a mixing bowl with cane sugar.
  5. Whisk until you get a light cream.
  6. Add the eggs, Greek yoghurt, vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
  7. Continue whisking until homogeneous.
  8. Add sifted flour mixed with baking powder.
  9. Whisk well until homogeneous.
  10. Pour the mixture into a buttered and floured cake tin.
  11. Cover the surface with previously prepared crumble.
  12. Bake in a preheated oven at 190°C for 45 minutes.
  13. Serve and enjoy!


  • Be sure to level the surface with a spatula before covering it with crumbled dough.
  • Do a toothpick test before taking the cake out of the oven to ensure it is ready.
